At a young age music is brought into a child’s life, parents even use music to sooth a baby before it is even born. Music has a huge impact on pop culture. What is popular culture some may ask? Well you can break pop culture up into two words, popular and culture. In Merriam- Webster Popular is defined as commonly liked or approved (â€Å"Popular†). The word Culture is defined in the same dictionary as the act of developing the intellectual and moral faculties especially by education (â€Å"Culture†). With that said, is this pop culture hit a good influence on childrens’ lives. Musicians don’t seem to care about using comments to drugs, drinking and sex in their songs and this all shows at their concerts. This alone shows how bad the concert was fill ed with drug use. She then added this statistic â€Å"The New York Times estimated that 99 percent of the crowd at Woodstock were smoking marijuana. Acid and other psychedelics were also quite prevalent. During the three days, there was one death from an overdose and an estimated 400 cases treated for bad trips† (par.1). This concert alone proves that drugs show up at concerts and can make it easy for kids can follow others into drug use. Most of the bands aren’t even phased by the use of the drugs. In fact a lot of them, maybe even most, encourage the use of drugs at their concerts. Musicians such as Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison have all died of suspected drug overdoses. Janis Joplin died on October 4, 1970 â€Å"Coroner to the stars Thomas Naguchi would report that Janis died of acute heroin morphine intoxication, due to an overdose† (Wilkins). Elvis Presley,† At the age of 42, died on August 16, 1977. His death was believed to be the result of an enlarged heart and a drug addiction to prescription drugs.
